Thanks, 2020

Well, the day has finally arrived. Here we are - Thanksgiving Day 2020. What will come out of your mouth today? My guess is many of us will have one form or another of the following statement:

"Thanks, 2020."

Depending on what your experience has been in 2020, you might say the above statement differently. As you look back in this year, do you find a voice of gratitude?

"THANKS, 2020!!"

Do you have a little more cynicism?

"...thanks, 2020..."

Do you wish that somehow God would have given you a gift receipt for this year that you could trade in? Maybe as you say the above words, it would move from cynicism to bitterness...

"Thanks A LOT, 2020."

Here is a Psalm to consider and three truths that it gives us to be thankful for.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.

Psalm 118:1 (NLT)

A simple verse, but a powerful reminder as we all navigate a year that looks dramatically different than ANY of us expected. So here are three truths to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

TODAY IS A GIFT

The Psalm opens by calling us to "Give thanks to the Lord..."

News flash: you can't do that if you are not here. And since you are here (I know you are because you are reading these words), it means that God has given you the gift of today and it is one more opportunity to give thanks.

But thanks for what?

GOD IS GOOD

"For he is good!"

I love that this Psalm doesn't just stop at saying that God does good things, it says that He is good!

Receive that and rest in that. Be thankful for that!

God's goodness is still on display when our circumstances that we navigate in life want to tell us otherwise.

GOD IS NOT DONE

Psalm 118:1 concludes with this powerful truth: "His faithful love endures forever."

In other words, GOD ISN'T DONE.

His faithfulness and love are going to endure. You might feel like things couldn't get any worse. But here is a reason to have HOPE and THANKS today (yes, even in 2020) - GOD IS NOT DONE.

His faithful love for you will continue tomorrow, and the next day and on into eternity.

Be thankful today.

Today is a gift.

God is good.

God is not done.
