3 Lessons from Proverbs 17 & 18 from this morning

Here are a few thoughts that I came across this morning in my bible reading.  Good reminders and challenges for us to keep growing, learning and living intentional.

Proverbs 17:16
It is senseless to pay tuition to educate a fool, since he has no heart for learning.

Do I have a heart that wants to learn?  This challenges me to think about WHO I invest in and WHY someone should be willing to invest in me.  If in my heart I have no real desire to grow or learn, why should someone invest into me…their efforts will be wasted.  I have to continually develop a heart that wants to learn and grow.

Proverbs 18:9
A lazy person is as bad as someone who destroys things.

The challenge in life when we are lazy is that we feel like we are just meeting our needs.  The truth is that we are being destructive.  We are destroying potential.  We are destroying opportunities.  We are destroying growth in our lives.  We must avoid being lazy.

Proverbs 18:15
Intelligent people are always ready to learn. Their ears are open for knowledge.

I will be the first to admit it.  I am not always ready to learn.  I don’t always feel like listening to what others have to say.  I’m not relentlessly eager to be teachable, add insight and grow.  This is a problem.  If we want to grow and become wise, part of the equation is being teachable and ready to learn.  Open up your ears.  Always be ready because opportunities to learn and grow don’t always show up on OUR timeline.
